Workshop Leader Education Program seeks students and lecture attendees

An education program operated in collaboration with a cultural institution that leads the way overseas in educational activities
Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and Portuguese music facility Casa da Música teamed up to launch an original Music Education Program in 2013.
For the project’s Workshop Leader Education Program, participants learn the requisite basic skills of workshop leadership under the instruction of Casa da Música workshop leaders, then create and present workshops in groups. Organizers of this hands-on practical program believe students cannot learnt purely through classroom learning.

Course A (Basics, Practical application)

Participants learn the requisite basic skills of workshop leadership, and create and present workshops in groups.

Schedule
(1) Thursday, July 13 — Monday (Public Holiday), July 17
Basic classes (lectures and practicals)
(2) Tuesday, July 18 — Monday, November 27
Workshop creation activities (twice weekly)
(3) Tuesday, November 28 — Sunday, December 3
Selected workshop productions open to the public
Casa da Música instructors will be in Japan for (1) and (3).

Overseas internships
1-3 students from Course A selected by the instructors will do a weeklong internship at Casa da Música in Porto, Portugal
*Travel and accommodation expenses provided by Tokyo Bunka Kaikan

*No travel expenses will be reimbursed, including during workshop creation class period.

Course B (Basics)

Participants learn the requisite basic skills of workshop leadership in a short time.

For artists (musicians, dancers, etc.), teaching staff, students and people interested in the work and activities of music workshop leaders.
*Participants who play musical instruments will be required to bring their own instruments

Announcement of results
All applicants will be notified of the results by self-addressed stamped envelope by Friday, June 9.
*In the case of over-subscription, first-time applicants will be given priority.
*Workshops produced as part of this program are scheduled to be implemented as Tokyo Bunka Kaikan original workshops.
