Physical comedy piece The Pianist was created by Finnish circus troupe Circo Aereo in collaboration with New Zealand entertainer Thomas Monckton.
Onstage is a single piano. The room is full of expectant audience members. Hoping to win them over, the concert pianist makes a dashing appearance and proceeds to give a virtuoso performance — or at least that was the idea. What transpires next is a series of unforeseen and bizarre developments, as the pianist is beset by an assortment of calamities, and his audience laughs in all the wrong places. The questions is, will he be able to perform as planned?
“The Pianist”, an instant smash that has already been performed in over thirty countries, comes to Japan for the first time as part of the upcoming TACT/FESTIVAL 2017. Monckton uses a range of acrobatic circus techniques to utterly transform the simple stage setting of one piano and a chandelier into a limitless comedic universe in seconds. Not to be missed!
