Discover new approaches to connecting art projects and society

This course concentrates on developing and implementing ideas for hands-on learning programs and media that help connect art projects with society. Art project organizers and personnel need to understand the nature of their work from a diverse mix of perspectives and present compelling opportunities for connections with society. By working with people in the field and getting firsthand experience with key concepts, participants in this program develop the skills to create publicity-oriented media and venues for guided tours, dialogue sessions, and activities that aim to interpret projects in words.

*This program will be conducted in Japanese.

Program

1. Getting ready to weave
In this portion of the program, participants meet art project organizers and artists to learn the basics of weaving art projects together.
Example topics: What does “weaving an art project” mean? / What kind of perspective goes into weaving an art project? / What does the weaving process create?
2. Experience-weaving in action (guided tour edition)
This part of the program takes participants to art project locations, where they practice leading tours and see the process of weaving art projects from different angles. As they research the art projects and communities, participants will learn how to craft effective guided tours.
3. Experience-weaving in action (planning edition)
The program culminates in a final project. Participants choose a target in Tokyo (an art project, artist, or art activity, etc.), devise their own weaving style (guided tour, media production, or venue development), and put their ideas in action.

Features

  • Through hands-on activities and other modes of learning, participants explore the kinds of verbal phrasing, settings, and conditions that are most effective in enriching art projects.
  • By encountering an extensive range of experience-weaving patterns, participants start to see new weaving styles that transcend the existing approaches.。
