The Relight Committee, an adult education organization that fosters “social sculptors”, is looking for participants for a lecture being held as part of its activity day on Saturday, November 18. For the community-themed November activity day, lecture participants will look at the practices of guests to learn how to address communities and motivate society through the gateway of art.
Artist Keiichi Ninomiya will be guest speaker on the day, which will feature a screening of “The Everyday: Visiting Mebuki-en”, a film he directed about the Mebuki-en support facility for the disabled in Oita Prefecture.
As an artist who lives and works in Oita, Ninomiya produces works influenced by interaction with local people in various regions in the prefecture.
In the television program “Portraits” airing on NHK Oita, Ninomiya travels around Oita talking to people in local communities. He asks them what made them happy the most as he draws their portraits, something he has been doing since 2000.
In conjunction with the screening, Ninomiya will be giving a talk on the day. Anyone interested in Ninomiya’s work or Relight Committee lecture content is welcome to attend.
