Travel the world with sound and music!

This year marks the fourth year for Hokusai Music Expo, a hands-on global music experience program for children. It was started with the aim of giving children the opportunity to have direct contact with musical instruments and music new to them, and encouraging their curiosity. This year’s expanded program will take place not only at Ekoin temple but also at venues nearby.
Hokusai Music Expo offers a diverse program of hands-on experiences and live events featuring guest performers and instructors, including a performance by participating elementary school children chosen through an application process. Adults as well as children can enjoy these programs, so please come along.

* Please see the official website and flyer for venue maps and timetables.

What is Hokusai Music Expo?
Founded on respect for the world-famous Katsushika Hokusai, the Hokusai Music Expo is a music program in which children from areas surrounding Sumida-ku (Hokusai’s birthplace) experience the euphony of instruments from around the world, learn about their history and go on to perform in concert after a practice period.
By early direct contact with music and the sound of instruments from all over the world, children get a feeling for these places. The hope is that these children keep hold of their curiosity, and before long spread their wings like Katsushika Hokusai and go on to have global impact.
