Japanese Folk Performance
15th Tama River Basin Folk Performance Festival

A grand festival of folklore music and dance that has developed around the Tama River. There will be 8 groups participating the festival, and will show their unique traditional art performances that has been handed down from generation to generation among the local people. The performance will include instrumental recital, traditional dance, “kagura” sacred music and a dance performed for gods, and “shishimai” a sacred lion dance. Tama River’s source is found in Yamanashi prefecture, west of Tokyo and the river flows through on the dividing line between Tokyo and Kanagawa. The river side is popular for picnic and sports activities.
