The U18 Dance Workshop Project, a continuing series for people 18 and under under the direction of the internationally known dancer and choreographer Saburo Teshigawara, has taken place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre since 2012.
This project, aimed at utilizing the relationship between breathing and body as a foundation for exploring an infinite number of possibilities, offers a rare accumulation of experiences in which each participant can discover a new self, extending their ability to feel and to think through their own bodies.
In search of a brand-new form of dance, Teshigawara will direct 11 young participants in this project in one of his productions, where they will be joined by Eri Wanikawa and Rika Kato, who have studied the his method since their teens and are now an integral part of such Teshigawara works as this year’s Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre presentation of “Sleep.”
