Director/Direction to Come

The words “director” and “direction” are used in a wide range of professions. In the performing arts, the role of the stage director emerged in the modern period and now denotes the figure central to the creativity of a production. This talk features artists who work in ways that depart from the conventional sense of a “director.” Together with the F/T directors, these guests discuss the future function of directors and direction.

Background or Foreground?

A work of art always has a background from which it emerges. This background is both something individual or personal to the artist as well as related to various broader social, temporal, cultural, and political contexts. This event searches for other artistic or creative perspectives and fertile breadth that become visible when we focus on and foreground such frequently overlooked backgrounds.
