Future of Migrant Youths = Japan of tomorrow

While Japan is facing depopulation, demands for talents with cultural diversity is on the rise; migrant youths might be holding the potential for the future of Tokyo.

Migrant youth have the ability to navigate multilingual contexts and engage in cross-cultural communication, which enables them to communicate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Youth have great potential to contribute to global society given the tremendous cultural diversity they carry within them. However, they are rarely given a chance to practice such ability, but are often treated as objects to be “supported” by the society

“Betweens Passport Initiative” is an art project that believes in the potential of migrant youth and see them as resources.. In order to cultivate such potential, the project aims to engage with the youth and empower them such as equipping them life skill.

In this Sharing Session, inviting speakers that work on youth development, we will introduce project cases that foster potential of youth. In the latter session, we will focus on youth leadership development and will discuss with participants how to co-create better environment for youth.

*Languages: Japanese – English (whispering interpretation will be available)
*In this project, we refer to foreigners who are living with diverse origins and/or cultures as “migrants”.
