Dialog going a little further, over a short time

Genre:
  • Art Project

Every day, we are keenly aware of not being able to meet.
There is no substitute for meeting up; not even the dream of the day we can meet again.
Let’s take a look a little into the distance from our current daily lives, at what we haven’t been able to see before.
When we look back some day, it’ll seem a short period of time.
So let’s have a low-key opening-up of dialog in preparation for that day, a little way off.

The Fan Fan project, which was founded on people getting together, now finds itself in a situation where it is difficult for people to get together.
“Dialog going a little further, over a short time” is a program tackling this issue by leveraging previous projects, “WANDERING” and “Fan Fan Letter.”

“WANDERING: Short Short”

We present “WANDERING: Short Short,” a special version that you can enjoy at home of the interview-based project “WANDERING,” ongoing since 2018.
Whereas the normal “WANDERING” comprises an hour of face-to-face questions and conversation, in this special version the individual at home does their own “WANDERING” (meaning to walk around, or to digress in speech)using pictures and words on a hand drawn map of Sumida-ku, with a screen accompaniment of video images of Sumida-ku neighborhood scenes.

When should I “wander”?
– When you’re at home and want to organize your thoughts a little
– When you want to think about something new

How long will it take?
– About 30 minutes

What equipment will I need?
– A notepad (or some paper of your choice around A5-A3 size)
– Writing things (you can liven things up by using multiple colors and art supplies)
– PC and smartphone (or any device that can play YouTube)

How do I “wander”?
Follow the instructions in this video

Fan Fan Letter Short Period of Time Edition

We present “Fan Fan Letter,” a project ongoing since 2018, in a special four-issue edition that includes a “furoku” supplement for a miniature exhibition that you can make at home. The artwork for this cut-out miniature exhibition was created in collaboration with four artists who work near sheepstudio in Kyoshima, Sumida-ku (the Fan Fan project base in 2019), and who operate gallery TOWED.
You can have fun with the pictures – based on a different theme per issue -sticking them wherever you want on the cut-out-and-assembled exhibition space, or coloring them in. Take time to admire the mini exhibition made in the familiar surroundings of your home. The little pictures are sure to inspire many thoughts and insights. What is this drawing of? What color should I paint this? What would I draw on the same theme?

Distribution points (as of June 13, 2020)
Issues are distributed with the cooperation of eateries etc.in Sumida-ku doing a takeout service.
– Café Nozarashi
– Satellite Kitchen
– Halahelu
