Pen Friend Project
“Grandmother's life” Exhibition: Tracing the passage of memories

Genre:
  • Art Project ,
  • Lecture / Symposium

On the invitation of Koganei Artfull Action! (Koganei City Art Culture Promotion Plan), artist and Australian resident Haji Oh is implementing the Pen Friend Project together with the citizens of Koganei.
For this project, the artist and four correspondents living in Japan with origins overseas exchanged a series of letters on memories of their grandmothers’ lives, and the resulting work based on these memories comprises notebooks containing memories of each correspondent’s grandmother. Delivered from Australia, these notebooks went around Japan, and people of different generations and regions wrote or drew memories of their grandmothers in them.
Along with the notebooks, we will be exhibiting transregional styles of works by citizens who have accompanied us on the Pen Friend Project journey.
