Life in the 21st century city is saturated by moving imagery. These images, which are nothing more than flickers of light, can evoke laughter, tears, and gasps of surprise, arouse desire and anger, and allude to intangible things and unvisitable places. And now, as a global pandemic accelerates the spread of remote communication as an alternative to physical travel and direct interaction, the
relationship we have with the moving image is increasingly multifaceted.
The 13th Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions will focus on motion graphics and their ability to evoke emotion in the viewer. Referencing the ingenuity and creativity of some of the historical precursors of video expression, it aims to provide an opportunity to reimagine both modern existence and the images we take for granted.
