Ikikayou YATO incense

Yatokko domei workshop

Genre:
  • Art Project ,
  • Workshop

See-through smells, able to take on any color or form.
Let’s have a good sniff!

What smells did you come across today?
Even if we smell the same smells, we all experience them in different ways.
Happy or sad,
Red or blue,
Soft or spiky.
There is no one right answer for everyone – the right answer is the one that comes to you!
Use your noses to have a good sniff.

There are lots of different smells around the local valley.
The healthy smell of wild plants and flowers,
The smell of the steam of mochi rice, which makes you hungry,
The smell of the breakfasts everyone brings:
They all mix together and become the smell of the valley.

We will send you some perfume and incense made by extracting smells like these from the valley, so that you can have fun figuring out what the smells remind you of, and challenge yourself to a puzzle to look for different smells.

The incense was made while picturing the tale of Ryuogaike pond.
Let’s get the dragon to leave off his rampaging by using some nice smells on him.
Be sure to take note of the mysterious movement of the smoke when you light the incense.

*Yatokko domei is a scheme through which children encounter the history and culture of Tadao through participation in workshops given by artists and elderly people, with children and adults joining forces to develop new ways to play, and new opportunities to learn.
See our Facebook page to find out more about our activities.
