In this year’s event, we introduce and provide an up-close taste of Eichan Club’s activities over the past three years. Come join us!

Event schedule

Screening of “Under the Cherry Tree” and “Eichan Film Review Club” talk with its director, Kei Tanaka

Schedule: Saturday, February 27, 2021
16:30 –
Screening: “Under the Cherry Tree” (directed by Kei Tanaka/91 minutes)
18:30 –
“Eichan Film Review Club” talk (with director Kei Tanaka, cinematographer Maeta Yamato, and Eichan Club members)

“Under the Cherry Tree” is set at a Kawasaki City public housing complex that has become a repository for single elderly people. Though lonely, these seniors live happily and resolutely in the face of their own death, with continual life and death virtually a part of their daily lives. The young female director focuses on the everyday life that unfolds in this small community, in a gentle drama that radiates a determined energy for living and leads us to reexamine community living in this period of time. (“Under the Cherry Tree” official website).
After the screening of this thought-provoking film, our guests, the film’s director Kei Tanaka and cinematographer Maeta Yamato, will talk about the production process and editing etc. as well as the film itself. Why not join Eichan Club members and enjoy a movie from a variety of angles?
