Yabomura-shiki Doki

Genre:
  • Art Project ,

The Yaho area in the southern part of Kunitachi City has flourished since ancient times and has been settled by people since the Jomon period. To this day, it offers a bounty of nature that cannot be found in the northern part of the city, including rice fields and cultivated land, and an abundance of spring water. Yabomura-shiki Doki is a program themed around gaining a sense of Yaho area history through the hands-on experience of touching and handling the earth. Over the course of two days, people who have never set foot in Yaho as well as people from outside the city will learn about the history of the Jomon period through their hands, creating their own earthenware pieces.

Program

In a schedule divided over two days, participants will create a 10cm or so earthenware work.
In part 1 of the process, we start by extracting earth and shaping clay, and after a one-week drying period, part 2 will see the pieces being fired, after which participants can take their finished pieces home with them.
