In preparation for The Deaflympics, part of The World Athletics Championships
being held in Tokyo in 2025, Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Arts Council Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture) have been developing an environment allowing everyone to enjoy arts and culture.
As part of this push, we are offering a training program for sign language interpreting in the field of arts and culture.
In addition to holding a total of eight lectures between July and November this year, we plan to implement practical training based on a variety of sign language interpreting situations, including accessibility practices at arts venues and symposiums related to arts and culture. After completing the training program, we hope participants will be able to work as personnel to assist with accessible arts initiatives using sign language, such as guided tours and workshops at metropolitan cultural facilities and other art museums, as well as accessible stage performances at theaters.
– Points to note when doing sign language interpreting in the field of arts and culture (Lecture)
– Preparation for providing sign language interpreting at art museums, theaters, etc. (Workshop)
– Practices for expression in sign language interpreting in the field of arts and culture (includes feedback from instructors)
– Situation-specific sign language interpreting (guided tours of art museums and theaters, symposiums, etc.)

People who meet the following two conditions are eligible.
– Those with experience or interest in sign language interpreting in the field of arts and culture
– Those who are sign language interpreters or people with the same level of ability as a sign language interpreter
