Acquiring the legal knowledge you want to learn now, for a sustainable creative environment

We are offering a program of lectures in which you will learn basic knowledge and information useful for your activities in terms of essential laws and systems related to the field of arts and culture.
The 2024 program will look at two themes: laws pertaining to “working” such as the Freelance Act that comes into effect in November and labor laws; and ever-changing AI and copyright matters.
All kinds of people working in the arts and culture sector can use this opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of legal affairs to build a creative environment where they can work sustainably.

Ideal for:
-People who want to learn what sort of impact new legal systems and technologies will have on the ground in the arts and culture sector
-People who want to learn how to work as a freelancer/how to work with freelancers
-People who want to learn about rights pertaining to their own and other people’s creations, and what sort of impact AI will have on this

Legal matters pertaining to the Freelance Act, labor laws, and “working”
Lecturer:Masayuki Kobayakawa
The so-called Freelance Act has recently been enacted and will soon come into effect.
This lecture will explain in simple terms how this will protect freelancers, how it will relate to labor laws, and the differences between freelancers and regular workers.

Appropriate ways to interact with/use AI
Lecturer:Takashi Nakazaki
The advent of generative AI has brought into focus the relationship between AI and copyright. This lecture will look at the following frequently arising issues, starting from the basics:
(1) when AI is made to learn copyrighted material, (2) when AI-generated material resembles copyrighted material, and (3) the possibilities for protection of AI-generated material.
