Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony 2024

Arts Council Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture) will hold Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony, a popular autumn tradition at two venues. The event will be held at two separate venues in Tokyo, making it easy to attend — everyone from those with experience in the Japanese tea ceremony to children and foreigners who are new to the culture.

The latest information on program changes and cancellations will be announced on the official website.

Tea ceremony program

Tea Ceremony (Indoor)
Please make the reservation through the official website.
*Advanced reservation is required. (Reservation period: August 9 to September 9)
*After the deadline, a lottery will be held to determine the winning reservations. The lottery results will be sent in late September via email.

Guests can request reservations via application form, first desired date and time, second desired date and time, number of participants (up to 2 people), and desired venue of Tea Ceremony (Indoor).

1. Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum

  • (1) House of Korekiyo Takahashi
  • (2) Second House of the Nishikawa Family*

  • (4) Mantoku Inn

2.Hama-rikyu Gardens

  • (1) Nakajima-no-ochaya
  • (2) Hobai-tei*

*Japanese sign language interpreters will be providing interpretation twice daily (in the morning and afternoon). Advanced reservation required.
– Participation fee to be paid on that day.
– If there is a large number of applications, participants will be chosen by a lottery.
– In case the application is below capacity, or there is cancellation on the day of the event, same-day tickets will be sold at the venues.
– Personal information obtained via the application process will be used only for the purpose of contacting and event operation.
– The allergic substances of the sweets served at the event will be disclosed on official website. Please check it before you make a reservation.

Tea Ceremony for Children
■Venue:
Farmhouse of the Tenmyo Family (Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum)  
■Eligible Participants:
– Children below junior high school age and their guardians.
– One guardian can participate with one or two children.

Outdoor Tea Ceremony by high school students
■Venue:
Kaboku-en(Hama-rikyu Gardens)

*The programs may be changed or cancelled due to any unavoidable circumstances such as weather.

Free of charge during Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony 2024(October 19 and 20)

General: 300 yen, 65ages+: 150 yen, Free for children aged 12 or under and junior high students residing or studying in Tokyo
