The Art Bridge Institute Forum offers an opportunity to look back over the last year of activities by the Art Bridge Institute, as well as thinking about its future activities. With special guest Takashi Serizawa, this year’s Forum will consider media for sharing and communicating thoughts and actions.

In every age, the media have served as a kind of “spaceship,” bringing a variety of thoughts to us. Sometimes, this leads to profound encounters that result in changing our opinions. This talk will introduce the printed material that Takashi Serizawa and Chihiro Minato have encountered and that has made a deep impression on them (magazines, booklets, pamphlets, etc.), and will consider the role and potential of this material.

During the latter half of the forum, we will hold a social event. In recent years, there has been considerable growth in the number of free papers and self-published works highlighting a variety of topics in regions and towns, dealing with themes such as food, community, art, and history. Free papers, newspapers, and maps published as an adjunct to art project activities have also developed in diverse ways, with most being published for different purposes and via different forms of distribution than those published on a commercial basis.

As well as showcasing a selection of such printed material at the venue, we will give participants the opportunity to take this material home with them, as well as providing a forum for thinking about the current status of alternative media being disseminated from various communities and activities.
