Arts Council Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture) implements various programs aimed for people who are not familiar with traditional Japanese culture and arts, like foreigners and children, to freely enjoy authentic traditional culture and performing arts, with the theme of “Approaching Tokyo Tradition.” Every third Sunday from September 16th, 2018 to February 17th, 2019, a Shamisen of Nagauta workshop will be held at the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center. Nagauta is a traditional Japanese type of music that developed as Kabuki music, but it can also be enjoyed with Shamisen music. The program will offer guests an impressive performance by professional musicians and give participants an opportunity to experience playing a Shamisen.
