“Cinema” is the theme of The National Museum of Art, Okutama’s latest project. A cinema complex with four screening booths will be created in the local mountains. Three of the booths will screen works by permanent exhibitors TakuroKotaka, Atsushi Yamamoto and Masahiro Wada. Over fourteen days the remaining screening booth will play host to an array of movie directors, video professionals and other guests, and screen their works.
Today, images have rapidly permeated our lives. Our everyday lives overflow with images; not only in movies and art but on television, in video sharing websites and computer network communications. And in terms of representationin image media, it is no longer possible to talk of trends produced by layers of diverse creators merely in terms of professional and amateur, commercial activity and hobby. This cross-boundary exhibition looks at what we have seen so far in variouscategories of image, and what will be showcased in future; it puts diverse categories in parallel, and explores new possibilities for the image.
