Outline

Noh has been preserved and refined by actors of each era for over 650 years. In 2001, Noh was named a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” in UNESCO’s first proclamation of this designation.
This is the 13th performance being held under the title “UNESCO Anniversary Noh” in order to transmit this precious asset down to future generations.
Each segment is in the Tachiai format. In the daytime segment, the same play will be performed by different Noh schools so that the audience can appreciate the differences among styles. The evening section will feature the “Autumn Noh by young actors” in which audience experiences the essential appeal of Noh through a selection of works based on the five Noh subjects: gods, men, women, madness, and demons.
