Outline

Half the Sky play Lindsay Cooper’s compositions written for Henry Cow and News from Babel arranged by Yumi Hara, as well as improvisations in between.
Arranged for occidental as well as oriental instruments, this is very much a music of the present, not an academic reconstruction. Performers are from UK and Japan including Yumi Hara, Chris Cutler, Miwazow, Wataru Ohkuma, Mitsuru Nasuno and Chloe Herington.

Profile

【Half the Sky】
Half the Sky (‘Women hold up half the sky’) was formed by Yumi Hara to play Lindsay Cooper’s music in Japan, inspired by the three memorial concerts organised for the original bands in 2014 by Chris Cutler.
As a project organised and realised predominantly by women it purposefully reflects Lindsay’s own practice – as well as celebrating the example of the bands who originally played these pieces 40 years ago: Henry Cow (50% female) and News from Babel (75%).
