TRANS ARTS TOKYO 2016 UP TOKYO

  • Organization : General Non-Profit Incorporated Artistic Organization Command N
  • Section : In Tokyo
  • Type of Grant Program : Single

Outline

2016 marks a landmark fifth year for TRANS ARTS TOKYO, a genre crossing art project which makes creative use of urban spaces, and organizers have new horizons in sight.

Organizers believe the key neighborhoods for post-2020 Tokyo’s identity will be the traditional ones whose old-world atmosphere makes them a cultural resource. These include YaNeSen (Yanaka, Nezu and Sendagi), Yushima, Hongō, Ueno, Jinbōchō, Akihabara and Kanda, districts which led Tokyo out of the Edo period and into the modern Meiji era. TRANS ARTS TOKYO is set to expand its vision with this project, which it calls “UP TOKYO” in the belief that these areas will support Tokyo going forward.
