With the play and the stage music translated into Japanese, this version of Bertolt Brecht’s representative work The Threepenny Opera is a new form of entertainment that is neither theater, a regular concert nor a musical, but which includes a play, music and kodan (traditional Japanese storytelling). Orquesta Libre, a band of preeminent Japanese musicians who have pooled their performing abilities and powers of expression, the current most dynamic female kodan raconteur Kyoko Kanda, up-and-coming actor Yohei Matsukado and songs by former Tama band member Yoichiro Yanagihara, together form an organic and multifaceted on-stage connection.
A graduate of Kwansai Gakuin University, he kickstarted his career on the Kansai area jazz scene while still a student. Active as a member of bands whose influences range from jazz to avant-pop, he has performed with various musicians straddling genres from pop to jazz, rock, modern music and traditional Japanese music.
He has presided over a variety of groups like the collective multi-member jazz group Orquesta Libre and percussion instrument ensemble Orquesta Nudge! Nudge! In recent years he has been invited to successive Copenhagen Jazz Festivals in Denmark. He has also been involved in many theatre, television and movie music production projects by the likes of Bungakuza Theater Company, Kouki Mitani and Yukio Ninagawa.
