Outline

Body Arts Laboratory (BAL) began as an artist-led dance organization. Every year it holds its annual Whenever Wherever Festival (WWFes), which trials platforms for the BAL movement. This year marks the festival’s fourth outing. The festival encourages an environment/infrastructure for physical expression not limited to the stage, and has repeatedly experimented with approaches to nascent communities in order to open and strengthen forums for dialogue.
WWFes 2012 is divided into Part 1 centering around performances and events, and Part 2 centering on educational programs. The subject of the grant is Part 1 (to be implemented from May through June).

Profile

Body Arts Laboratory (BAL)
Established in 2008 as an artist-led dance organization (Director: Kota Yamazaki). In addition to organizing the Whenever Whatever Festivals in Tokyo (2009–2015 and 2018), the organization conducts research activities such as critiques and interviews, the results of which it publishes primarily online. BAL aims to support artists in the communication activities that accompany their creative work.
