Outline

In 2012 BATIK led by Ikuyo Kuroda marked ten years since its founding. As a milestone for a company that has continued to dance and produce non-stop, BATIK will be presenting a new work, “Otarudori,” a word coined by Kuroda. “Otaru” means the natural movement of the body when it is full of feeling such as joy, sorrow or compassion, said to derive from the word “odoru” (to dance). “Tori” means a being that crosses country borders.

BATIK
BATIK is an all-female dance company founded in 2002 by choreographer Ikuyo Kuroda. They officially started as a professional dance company in 2002. Their main works are SIDE B (2002), SHOKU (2004), Flowers flow, and pendanteve (2007). Their dynamic and hard movements are based on ballet with the natural urge of dance, and they have many fans from differnt genres. Besides performing in Japan, the company has given overseas performances on various occasions.
