Creative Festival started in Keihin Island = Island of Ironworks “Iron Island FES”
Creative Festival Is Held in Keihin Island Creative Festival started in Keihin Island = Island of Ironworks “Iron Island FES”
Creative Festival Is Held in Keihin Island (aka Island of Ironworks), the last frontier of Tokyo
Keihin island, the 1.03-square-kilometer reclaimed land with a population of just one person located in front of Haneda Airport.
Although the island used to flourish with noises and fires as iron industry island, many of ironworks have turned to waste disposal factories or recycle centers due to oversized facilities of each factory and changing times. At first, “BUCKLE KÔBÔ” project started last year as an artist studio in a part of ironworks to be a creative hub in Keihin island. When we started the project, we referred to the successful examples, such as SOHO and DUMBO in NY, East End in London and 798 Art Zone in Beijing, all of which once declined or abandoned , but revitalized thanks to artists’ creativity and became cultural destination.
“Iron Island FES” is expected to evokes the chemical reaction between creators in this integral culture festival like SXSW, which includes music performances, contemporary artworks, performing arts and screening films. This FES also has another aspect: An attempt to revitalize this island in a creative and exciting way by music, art, films and camping with people and organizations related to the island.
