The culture of karaoke originated in Japan, and has now spread around the world. This karaoke tournament is being held under the philosophy of widely disseminating karaoke to the world in the form of a Japanese-style matsuri festival representing Tokyo as an international city of culture. Anyone can sign up for this citizen-led and participatory creative/cultural event, regardless of age, gender or nationality. Qualifying rounds for the Matsuri are slated to be held in four city locations from April through July 2018, and the “Grand Champion Tournament” for the winners will take place on Sunday, August 26 at Nissho Hall in Toranomon (Minato-ku).
【Tokyo Karaoke Matsuri Executive Committee】
The committee consists of three companies: free newspaper publisher Sankei Living Shimbun Inc., Nippon Cultural Broadcasting radio station and Enjoysing, which organizes karaoke tournaments. The committee aims to operate a tournament that widely communicates information and facilitates participation.
