As people across the world struggle to overcome the pandemic, we wish to share joy and hope through this festival and deliver El Sistema’s universal mission: to play, sing, and strive.
Unfortunately, the pandemic has limited the possibilities for everyone to play on stage together, but we have not given up on adhering to our festival’s vision. We will share messages and performance videos from friends both in Japan and abroad, and the concert will be live-streamed online, accessible from anywhere around the world.
The World Children’s Music Festival Orchestra will play Beethoven’s Symphony No.5. The Soma Children’s Chorus and Tokyo White Hand Chorus will perform “Ametsuchi no Uta” (lyrics by Nozomu Hayashi/composed by Maki Ueda), a beautiful suite of songs that celebrates nature in Japan.
【Friends of El Sistema Japan】
The Friends of El Sistema Japan was founded in 2012 to support the children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami, which severely hit the communities of northeastern Japan in March 2011. We are committed to developing life skills in children “through music” to help them overcome the post-disaster challenges and realize their full potential as a vital member of society. Since our signing of the cooperation agreement with the local government of Soma City in 2012 and then with Otsuchi City in 2014, we have been providing free instruments and music education to all children who wish to join our program, regardless of his or her family background, disabilities and/or nationality.
