The 4th performance in a series produced by percussionist Sawako Yasue focusing on composers in the field of contemporary music. This performance concentrated on works by Sylvano Bussotti.
Featuring as guests the singers Akane Kudo and Takashi Matsudaira, who are both well-versed in contemporary music, and Hidehiko Hinohara, a pianist who studied under Bussotti, the performance introduced works by Bussotti which are rarely performed in Japan due to the challenges presented by Bussotti’s characteristic use of graphic notation in his works.
In addition, the performance showcased a new composition by Yoichi Sugiyama using Bussotti’s poems, accompanied by installation piece “Marimba Ping Pong” by artist Rintaro Hara. This demonstrated Bussotti’s diversity as an artist active not only in music composition but also in the spheres of theater and art.
YASUE Sawako
YASUE Sawako graduated from Toho Gakuen School of Music. Yasue received an encouragement award in the Munich International Music Competition in 1991. She has regularly held marimba and percussion recitals called “Prana” since 1995 and has been a member of Saito Kinen Orchestra since 1995. She performed as a timpanist with Deutsche Bachsolisten and Mito Chamber Orchestra (on European tour with Seiji Ozawa, and under the baton of Ton Koopman, etc.). Yasue has taught at Toho Gakuen since 1996. She was sent to Berlin as an overseas art trainee by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of the Japanese Government in September 2002 and studied there for one year under Rainer Seegers, a timpanist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. She performs percussion, marimba, and timpani as a soloist, with chamber orchestras and with orchestras in a wide range of music including baroque, contemporary works, new works, etc. Besides teaching at Toho Gakuen, Yasue is also a member of Saito Kinen Orchestra.
