Tokyo Consolation “Healing and Hope by Music for Tokyo toward a Post-Pandemic”

  • Organization : General Incorporated Association Art-Forum NOAN
  • Section : Artistic and creative activity in Tokyo
  • Type of Grant Program : Single
  • Art Forms : Music

Outline

Under the theme of healing and hope, this concert is designed to contribute to solutions for psychological issues in our post-coronavirus society by leveraging the functions of music: its capacity to ease tension, calm anxiety, and produce a relaxing effect. The program includes a solo cello performance of “Ricercare” by D. Gabrielli, the choral work “Only in Sleep” by Esenvalds, and a “Chandos Anthem” by Handel. The music represents a story in which a person made lonely and isolated by the pandemic explores the meaning and purpose of life.
The concert will take place in St Mary’s Cathedral Tokyo, a place of profound prayer away from everyday life. Candlelight symbolizing healing and hope will glimmer amid the radiating and layered sounds. The concert will be performed by the clear harmonies of the Vocal Consort Tokyo choir, and the VCT Baroque Orchestra which features virtuosos of old musical instruments. Conducted by Kazutoshi Shinomi.

General Incorporated Association Art-Forum NOAN
General Incorporated Association Art-Forum NOAN was established in February 2016 by Kazutoshi Shinomi. In the same February, two singers were invited from Germany to perform in the planning and production company’s fourth concert event “Shin’en naru barokku (the boundless sounds of Baroque).” It planned and produced Vocal Consort Tokyo’s fifth concert “Homage to Palestrina” in April 2017, and its sixth concert “Licht-Schein-Lux Transforming Light” in November the same year. In July 2018 NOAN organized Vocal Consort Tokyo’s seventh production, “Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem,” and its eighth performance “Bach: Mass in B minor” in April 2019.
