Outline

Aiko Miyanaga’s installation “Message from the Light” will run at the historic site of Yushima Seido as a project related to Tokyo Biennale 2020/2021.
For this installation, curated by Tokyo Biennale’s Creative Director Kazuko Koike, Aiko Miyanaga’s glass works are placed across the inner courtyard garden, and sanukite – a volcanic rock native to Kagawa Prefecture – is placed in water vessels.
Themed around art activities that utilize Tokyo’s historic buildings and cultural resources, the aim of this project is for art to act as a medium connecting the city and people, bringing people who live in Tokyo and visitors to the city alike into contact with the spirituality, culture and attractions of the city of Tokyo, and subsequently giving them a more sensitive perspective on urban/living spaces.

Through introducing knowledge and expertise of philosophy and art criticism into the organization, the committee explores the potential for leveraging art and cultural resources under a self-verifying approach.
