Outline

The aim of this concert project is to bring back the atmosphere of the Edo period to modern Tokyo through traditional performing arts and music. Organizers made use of two kinds of space, the theater and the ozashiki tatami room, typical settings for traditional performing arts in Edo. Designed to provide audiences with an enjoyable and easy-to-understand experience of this atmosphere as a “letter carried by the wind from Edo,” organizers made the event a fitting New Year’s performance for dispelling the pandemic.

Profile

【「Sounds of Hayashi -A Letter carried by the winds from Edo∼」 Executive Committee】
Hayashi is the instrumental music played in almost all Japanese traditional entertainments like Noh and Kabuki. And it is also played in traditional folk entertainments all over Japan and it is deeply related with traditional culture through the annual events. In order to spread and develop Hayashi music, we established NPO Hayashi Institute of Japan, for cultural and musical enrichment. Then we built this committee based on the NPO to execute the concert to call a memory of Edo living with beautiful nature back into Tokyo today.
