Outline

The intuitive beauty of natural phenomena and what can be seen beyond logical depth

Mankind has from the distant past sought to understand nature itself and has evolved under the motivation of intellectual curiosity. These exploratory activities have developed by being segmented into various fields such as science and art. On the other hand, natural phenomena are indivisible, and as a result of being divided into fields, it is also true that numerous hidden fragments of them exist which are irretrievable in any of these fields. Nor is working to create new values without repudiating any of them, by focusing on the contradictions and dilemmas between science and art, in order to understand and experience natural phenomena themselves (the Aufheben or sublation of science and art).

In this exhibition, we present “syncrowd,” a work inspired by recent intermittent social upheavals, crowd psychology, and awe for the natural laws that produce these things. By experiencing this work – created using the scientific phenomenon known as synchronization – and by engaging in dialogue with nor members, we hope visitors will think about the natural phenomena hidden inside and outside the work, as well as in everyday life.

Profile

nor

Founded in 2017 by members with diverse backgrounds including scientists, musicians, architects, programmers, engineers, robot engineers and designers. The group utilizes technology in its approach towards creative areas that cannot be encapsulated in generalized definitions. It engages in creative activities unbound by technique, such as spatial design, installation, and product development, with the aim of transforming fields dealt with in research/study into a form that can be experienced firsthand by as many people as possible, and with the aim of updating social values and potential.
