Outline

Hostile architecture refers to structures camouflaged as public art or stylish design, made with intentional unevenness and sloping surfaces that make it difficult for homeless people to lie down and sleep there. With hostile architecture and S&M as motifs, the purpose of this exhibition was to expose the malicious intent of hostile architecture using the body, and to caricature the “heroic hypocrisy” of the artist himself as a critic of that malicious intent. On the first floor of the exhibition venue and for the duration of opening hours, Kodera, wearing bondage clothing, lies on top of a plinth created by Shuntaro Yoshino in imitation of hostile architecture. On the second floor a photographic work by Ryunosuke Fujie of Kodera lying down in a similar costume is displayed on an actual piece of hostile architecture, along with a masochism-related quote. Dummy CCTV cameras were also set up in every corner of the exhibition space.
