Outline

This project is dubbed “performance art for thinking about isolation.” Triggered by the “homicide with consent” murder in 2019 of a patient with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as motor neuron disease, the project was an attempt to find positive aspects of the state of isolation by considering it from multiple perspectives.
The innovator of this concept says she is searching for a method of expression that “makes the viewer aware of their own sense of values through the act of interpretation.” For this project, AREA51 pursued the possibilities of interpretive acts by offering different performances by multiple artists in the same space at the same time.

Profile

AREA51
An art collective of creatives from a wide variety of genres including theater, film/video, and music production. With activities based primarily in Tokyo and online, the collective works under the banner of “making things that impact society.” As a holacracy-style organization, plans are discussed and decided each time so that members are not bound by creative activities. The aim of AREA51 is to encounter more people while continuing to create, and to expand the “environment” for creation.
