Outline

A storytelling event based on the Reggio Emilia approach from Northern Italy was held at the IKEJIRI INSTITUTE OF DESIGN. In addition, a three-month course was implemented to train members of the public as performers to appear at the event on the day. The event featuring three performers from the general public, four invited professional performers and two artists who run art workshops attracted 120 participants. The event was also streamed as some people refrained from participating in person due to the coronavirus pandemic. A month and a half after this event, the online event “artenarra forum 2022” was held, where experts, organizers and participants discussed and deepened their understanding of the meaning and possibilities of public involvement in arts and culture.

Profile

artenarra
This group began its activities in 2017, based on the Reggio Emilia approach from Northern Italy of community-driven education and child-rearing, and the movement’s “reggionarra” book-inspired creative activity sessions. With the weakening of communities constituting a social problem in Japan as well due to a trend towards the nuclear family and the increasingly isolated nature of childrearing, the group carries out general art-related cultural projects built around the three-pronged concept of childrearing by the whole community, the creation of a comfortable environment for adults and children, and the creation of communities that inspire affection for one’s neighborhood.
