Outline

“Obects on the earth” was held at Art Salon ENGAWA, a shared studio and art space renovated and opened by Yoshihara. In the middle of the exhibition space was the silicon sculpture “Small Opera City” (a miniature of the skyscraper Tokyo Opera City), surrounded by a group of works called “earths (kneaded eraser)” made by forming rubble from the renovation into balls. In the back yard was the work “a bit of the ocean,” a shallow hole filled with seawater. Visitors could go around the installation using a map on the handout, reconsidering the relationship between things, space and people. Yoshihara’s practice of leveraging the locality and spatial characteristics of Hatsudai in Shibuya-ku, an area studded with high-rise buildings and crossed by expressways, encouraged in the viewer the unassuming yet dynamic perspective of the individual’s body and people’s existence as being connected to the entire world
