Outline

Every time Seki has read things such as The Hidden Half of Nature” (written by David R. Montgomery+Anne Biklé, translated by Natsumi Kataoka) and listened to experts on viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms, as well as strongly relating to the contents she has reflected on the current state of human society: the fact that we change the world of microorganisms by what we eat, drink and excrete, and what we use in our everyday lives; and the fact that we therefore threaten our own existence.
Seki believes it is precisely because dance is abstract that it can stimulate the audience’s power of imagination and transmit specific questions and reactions to the bodies of each audience member. Comments from people who have seen her performances before include: “My internal organs began moving while I was watching the performance,” and “For some reason, after the performance the pain disappeared from the parts that hurt, and I was able to walk normally.”Because there is so much visual stimulation nowadays, Seki scrutinizes what information to include: she represents the invisible and the intangible on stage, continuing to present occasions that take a bird’s eye view of what we have inside and of our activities, as well as to present things that speak to the audience’s five senses and their bodies.
