In this tour, Ohira showcased Japanese works he encountered through performing in Japan to convey to European audiences Japan’s unique organ music culture and its possibilities, both of which differ significantly from organ music culture in Europe. Through social media and the video medium, Ohira has been able to demonstrate the performance techniques and production skills he developed in Europe to Japanese audiences as well as to those in Europe.
Kensuke Ohira
Completed graduate and post graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts. In 2010 he went to Germany on a DAAD scholarship and studied at Würzburg University of Music and University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. After qualifying as a national performing musician in 2013, he entered the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists. In 2016 he won The International Organ Week Nuremberg (ION) competition. From then until 2020, he was involved in a wide range of church-related music projects as organist for Stiftskirche Stuttgart. In 2021, he returned to Japan and currently serves as principal organist at Hijirigaoka Church as well as Artistic Director of Ensemble Muromachi.
