The aim of this concert is to boost the reputation of Japan’s first Euphonium and Tuba ensemble. The group hopes to expand the possibilities of musical ensembles and improve artistry and academic value through reappraisal of famous works and performance of newly commissioned ones. The first half of the concert features original works, including a commissioned piece by Koji Fukumaru; and in the second half the group will showcase famous pieces with different ensembles, as well as arrangements by Eiji Suzuki, a leading figure in the world of wind music.
Ueno Bass Clef
A group formed amid the chaos caused by the coronavirus pandemic of 2020, based on members’ strong desire to do something with the power of Euphonium and Tuba music. Its talented members all graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and work as soloists, orchestral performers, teachers, etc., and have won competitions both in Japan and overseas. Ueno Bass Clef is a gathering of friends who harbor questions about the range of the ensemble repertoire and the direction of baritone and bass range instruments. The group boosts the value of the Euphonium and Tuba through concerts and seminars, promoting the development of these instruments. In February 2021, the group premiered “In Vivo 2,” a work commissioned from Tetsuo Kubo.
