In this project theater company DORA offers struggling young people who are not in education or employment the experience of creating a stage production together with peers and friends, enlisting the aid of cooperating organizations to solicit young people through a wide-reaching recruitment drive that includes demo workshops and flyers. This experience cultivated participants’ self-expression, based on trust, fulfillment, self-affirmation, and diversity, and supported their journey towards participation in society.
After orientation (in the form of individual interviews), DORA conducted a total of 26 communication workshops using theatrical tools such as stretching and theater games, creating an environment in which participants could feel safe and trust each other before staging the work, “Cap and the Magical Picture Book” (performance time 1 hour 30 minutes) as they wanted to stage it.
Total twelve participants gained first-hand experience of a full-fledged stage production, including stage sets, props, costumes, lighting, and sound. Participants decided who was in charge of the design of the flyer and pamphlet for the performance day, as well as sets, props, costumes, etc., carrying the project through in collaboration with the staff of Theater Company DORA.
