With this initiative, organizers wanted to join the audience in thinking about tradition and innovation, and to share the potential of “chamber music” going forward. Under the theme of “new and old quartets,” in addition to the string quartet, which has long formed the foundation of Western music, organizers presented a program with instrumentation that included new instruments and techniques not normally included in orchestras, such as different kinds of ensembles transcending the conventional quartet (saxophone, percussion instruments, keyboard instruments, electronic instruments, electric guitar, etc.).
