The Percussion Ensemble is a form of music often performed at wind music competitions and contests. Nowadays, as well as classical music, competitions and contests also feature black music and contemporary music style improvisation. However, there is a limited number of musicians with a foundation in the source of these musical genres who are able to perform them, resulting in a tendency towards “music for contests” rather than a focus on musical content.
Percussion Ensemble “CROWS” aims to be an ensemble representing a clear departure from “contest music,” and hopes to broaden the genuine horizons of the percussion ensemble for the benefit of audiences and amateur musicians. With these values in common, Kakizaki, Kubota, Kudo, and Shibata formed the Percussion Ensemble “CROWS.” Each has a solid foundation in classical music, jazz, etc. The Ensemble hopes to take a new step forward with this project at Meguro Persimmon Hall, set the direction for “CROWS,” and apply this to future content creation.
fippamusic
fippamusic is a group that continuously explores the fusion and reconstruction of Western classical music, music of African American derivation like Jazz, and Japanese gagaku, which dates back over a thousand years.
With today’s ongoing globalization and ever more rapid social change, music culture is in a sense facing crisis. fippamusic believes audiences cannot be moved by music that is solely created on a commercial basis. Now is the time to transcend the boundaries of genre and find meaning in the exploration of future musical forms. fippamusic was formed as an organized group to focus on continually exploring new sounds. As well as performance, the group often organizes workshops, performances by other musicians and open lessons, in the hope of encouraging and stimulating regional musicians and music aficionados who lack the options available in metropolitan Tokyo.
