A 50-minute performance under the theme of “severing the thread hanging down from Paradise by yourself,” which references a famous Japanese short story. Taking the spiritual nature of HIPHOP as his creative starting point, Yamada explores how to reflect the idea of “powerful existence” onto physicality.
The core of the performance was defined and put into practice as the act of cutting through the yellow masking tape extending around the performance space and then dancing, illustrating both impulsive physical explosion and control.
Sato Ymada
Physical artist. After starting to dance in high school, since 2019 he has taken part in YUKIO SUZUKI projects, led by Yukio Suzuki. He is interested in the body itself, looking at how to channel cherished beliefs and spirituality into a physical context while retaining neutrality and identity. Yamada appears as a dancer in works by Yukio Suzuki, Yo Nakamura, Shun Nakamura, and Koichiro Tamura, and also regularly organizes his own performances.
