The 14th Senga Yamaki recital (enjoy flowers throughout the year with Koto) incorporated several new paintings by Japanese style artist Hakuzan Yanase. The paintings, inspired by three pieces of music from the program – “Shikino kyoku,” “Tomimoto Sakurananamoto,” and “Kumano” – were displayed around the venue entrance, the lobby, and on stage. The artist produced several paintings for each of the three pieces of music. Organizers hoped the recital would offer both a visual and an auditory treat by concurrently offering traditional Japanese music and Japanese-style paintings.
