This is the new theatrical production from chelfitsch, using its new theatrical technique “EIZO-Theater.” Up until now, “EIZO-Theater” has constituted theatrical performance/exhibition in museums and theater exhibition spaces. However, this work brings the techniques of “EIZO-Theater” to stage-based performance.
Actors and musicians appear solely as images projected onto two translucent screens set up on stage. Audience members sit in their seats and watch the images projected onto the on-stage screens. At the same time, using their imagination allows them to create the illusion of a performance space for the drama, and they begin to stage a play in their own minds. Following performances in Tokyo, Gwangju and Seoul, the work will be staged at Singapore International Festival of Art and Djakarta International Theater Platform. This is the first time in 15 years chelfitsch have performed in Singapore since “Five Days in March” in 2008, and the troupe’s first performance in Jakarta.
chelfitsch
The theater company chelfitsch was founded in 1997 by Toshiki Okada, who writes and directs all of its productions. Applauded for its distinctive methodology, which applies the relationship between quirky speech and physical movements, it attracts keen attention, both inside and outside Japan, as a troupe in the vanguard of contemporary theater. The company made its debut abroad in 2007, when it performed “Five Days in March” at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts, which is regarded as one of the most important festivals on the European performing arts scene, in Brussels, Belgium. It has since performed works in a total of more than 90 cities in Asia, Europe, and North America.
