The Tokyo Architecture Festival is a festival that provides an opportunity for the public at large to experience the diverse architecture of Tokyo and to enjoy architecture by coming into contact with the diverse aspirations of those who create, use, and protect and pass on architecture. The festival is created with the cooperation of many people involved in the city, including donors, sponsors, building owners, guides, staff recruited from the general public, local residents, and participants in the tours.
The festival aims to promote and expand architectural culture by opening the act of enjoying architecture to the general public and making it more accessible, and to help people rediscover the charms of Tokyo.
In 2024, the inaugural year of the event, we held special open houses and exhibitions, guided tours of the buildings with commentary by experts and building owners, lectures, live broadcasts, and other events.
【Tokyo Architecture Festival Executive Committee】
The Tokyo Architecture Festival Executive Committee is a collaboration of industry, academia, and government that was established by members involved in architecture from various perspectives, including architecture professionals, business, government, and the media, who agree on the significance of architectural events in Tokyo. Shunsuke Kurakata (architectural historian, professor at Osaka Public University), chair of the executive committee, is actively involved in opening architectural expertise to the public through his writings and the many projects and architectural festivals he has been involved in since its inception throughout Japan. The other committee members are also engaged in activities to foster civic pride through architectural experiences for the general public.
