Outline

In 2015, a new professional chamber choir called vocalconsort initium was established in Tokyo. This is the 8th concert organized by them. Titled “Profundity of Japanese Choral Music,” the concert focuses on the works of contemporary Japanese composers. It presents pieces with various configurations and acoustic rules, aiming to clarify the relationship between the Japanese language and music, as well as the relationship between language and music. This concert is an attempt to contemporize the critical nature of choral music within the context of classical music.

Profile

vocalconsort initium
vocalconsort initium is a chamber choir formed in 2015 by two conductors who honed their craft in Europe: Kaoru Tani (Austria) and Kota Yanagishima (Germany). All members have their own independent musical careers and pursue the possibilities for polyphonic performance. The choir made its performing debut in February 2015 with Wolfgang Rihm “Tritis est anima mea” and Hanns Eisler “Gegen den Krieg.” Having successfully given eight independent performances in Tokyo, in November 2019 vocalconsort initium gave its fourth concert as part of Hokutopia International Music Festival. In 2022 it held a concert and conducting masterclass with guest Morten Schuldt-Jensen.
